Off to the Electoral College

Description

I'm still trying to work out how best to summarise how I feel about the US election, and just about everything else about this year so far outside of my personal life, but this is started out as a doodle I did two weeks ago that I finally saw fit to give some real life yesterday. The electoral college being used in elections to a single office are about as logical as First Past the Post in parliamentary elections - it's not the fairest system and it's flaws are now being embodied in the results being produced. Dissatisfaction with government is what ultimately led to both Brexit and Trump, and the easiest way to have people really feel like they're having an impact again would be to make sure voting is as fair and accessible as possible. That way people can make themselves heard while they're still fairly moderate, rather than feeling locked out and being coaxed to the fringes.

As the last votes are being counted, the side that lost has 2 million more votes. In the Brexit referendum, me and everyone who thinks a hard Brexit is a stupid idea is being told to shut up because Leave won by 1.2 million votes. I still think Brexit, especially hard Brexit is an astoundingly idiotic move, but at least I can say the decision was democratic, even if it was vague on the details. There's no such solace for Clinton voters. If they feel hard done by and want to kick up a fuss, I'm certainly not going to judge them for it.

Yes, except the flaws with the electoral college are only being brought up now that the left has lost. When it was Obama being voted in, it was fine. Listen, I'm fine with being mad, but please be reasonable. If you want to get rid of this system, fine. But you accepted to play by rules, even if they were bad rules, and it's kinda hypocritical to complain only now that you've lost. Now what you need to do is hound Trump to change the system so that the next election is fair, and maybe this time we can get goddam Burnie into office, or literally anyone besides Buffoon Maximus or the Most Corrupt Woman on the Planet.

You agreed to the rules when you thought you'd win. You lost because of those rules. Only now are those rules a problem to you. Now what you have to do is accept the result of those rules, and work to make sure that they aren't there next time. You are the people of the United States of America. Do you really think if all, or even most, of you demand something of the President, do you really think he has a choice? Your job is to hound Trump until he does the right thing.
