The Mistake by timsplosion The Mistake by timsplosion
Another week, another great episode, and, apparently, another comic!

A day late, because I spent most of yesterday with my dad, but still, better late than never, right?

So yeh, this struck me during the episode: We don't actually see where Real Pinkie landed in the crowd, so the audience can't actually keep a track of her themselves - which means this scenario could totally have happened, and we would have absolutely no idea.
Cue the rush of fics where either the duplicate Pinkie has to try and hide their identity, or the mane six has to work out the secrets of the mirror pond to try and get real Pinkie back, or where, having been sent to the mirror pond, real Pinkie gets super pissed off, turns evil and returns. Seriously, I'll be VERY surprised if atleast one of those DOESN'T show up on EQD at some point.

Yeah, that could've easily happened. Twilight seemed needlessly trigger-happy in that scene, blasting Pinkie's left and right, even if they were just reacting to somepony making a ruckus right next to them.

Srsly, someone starts talking right next to you, wouldn't you turn around? And what if Pinkie Pie had to, say, sneeze?
I could easily imagine one of the clones in front of her spontanously deciding to do a dance routine and showing her tail right in Pinkie's face, tickling her nose... aaaand ZAP.
:iconpinkiedoesnotwantplz:

Geez, Twilight, why didn't you - oh I dunno - use some of that PAINT to just MARK the clones? :icontwilightfacehoofplz:

But here's the real scary part that really bothered me.

Proceed with caution, you have been warned.

:iconattention-plz: ---------------- <warning, grim-dark episode-related rant ahead> ---------------- :iconattention-plz:

In the episode, we briefly got to know Pinkie's first clone. In those few minutes, after her first initial bursts of "fun! fun! fun!", she clearly displayed her ability of rational thought and emotion. The only thing Pinkie's clones clearly lacked was life-experience. Running around, breaking things and causing havoc ... They simply didn't know any better.

...the episode ended with Twilight blasting about 40 completely innocent ponies to Luna-knows-where, possibly to oblivion. Not out of malicious intent, or an out-of-character behavior, but because she and everypony else was too focussed on solving a "problem", and apparently did not even treat them as actual ponies, as seen when Dash just dumped the "original" Pinkie into the others. :O

Literally, that was the darkest ending to an episode I've ever seen. :fear:
And that says a lot for an episode with ~40 happily bouncing pink ponies.

I mean, I was literally sitting there at the end of the episode thinking to myself "... yeah, Pinkie learned a valuable lesson about friendship, that's nice, but I want to know WHAT THE HAY HAPPENED TO THE ~40 INNOCENT PONIES THAT TWILIGHT JUST ZAPPED?!"

There's a deviation that says there's still a Pinkie Clone hidden in the beard of that pink-haired amish pony (or "haymish" for some ponies around).

Had Twilight processed the situation accordingly, she woulda known who the real pinkie is soon enough. You see she should know by now that Pinkie makes no sense; which in turns makes sense. Pinkie makes sense in not making sense, and while each and every other Pinkie was mindlessly bounding around claiming to be the real one, she finds one completely in a down mood. Finding out that this Pinkie was upset that she didn't know if she was the real one and she felt the others wouldn't believe her if she said she was, it would be easy to know that only the real Pinkie would confuse herself in such a way.

While it wasn't a failsafe plan, we know we got the right Pinkie.

Proof is on the friendship report; there's no way clone Pinkies could have known Princess Celestia or even the importance of friendship report.

All it would take is that one pinkie was convinced that watching paint dry was fun :p. And with Pinkies horrible memory, noone will notice if they took the wrong one anyway (the real pinkie learned them the names already).

I'm actually really surprised no one has made this fanfic yet (they are usually cranked out so fast), I mean the first time I saw this scene I thought for sure I would see at least 2 of them on the featured board on fimfiction

The only "Pinkie mirror clone"-fics I've seen being featured on fimfiction were [link] and [link] ...

... yeah, "OMG YOU'RE NOT A REAL PONY, YOU'RE JUST A CLONE YOU DON'T HAVE FEELINGS" ... nah, not reading that kinda nonsense.

...and Pinkie actually being an entire changeling-hive instead of a single pony? Err... Err. :O

I do have a nice idea for a fanfic myself though.

Eh. Too early to say if it'll get anywhere, although so far the concept seems sweet and innocent enough, telling the story of one of Pinkie's clones randomly wandering off and joining a traveling circus, making friends, learning from mistakes, eating the first baked good of her life... =P
...aaand then she comes back to Ponyville two weeks later. Err. Awkward. :icontwilightcryingplz:

Real Pinkie and last pinkie standing were approximately in the same location relative to the room walls and door.

(Of course, the fics about duplicate Pinkie hiding identity would be fascinating, although she would have a little bit of trouble as it seems that memories aren't transferred with duplication.)
